In Loving Memory of Larry James Hebert, “Meatball”
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Larry James Hebert, affectionately known to friends and family as “Meatball.” Larry departed this world peacefully on August 23, 2024, at 4:18 AM, surrounded by love, as he held the hand of his cherished grandson, Tyler. Just a few days shy of his 77th birthday, which he proudly shared with another of his grandsons, Thomas, Larry’s loss leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born on September 16, 1947, in Baldwin, Louisiana, Larry was the youngest son of Claude and Elise Hebert. He grew up in a loving family, where values of hard work and community were instilled in him from an early age. Larry received his education at Hanson Memorial Catholic School in Franklin, Louisiana, and upon graduation, he embarked on a lifelong career as a fabricator. His work ethic was exemplary; he dedicated 40 years of his life to Superior Fabrication, where he earned immense respect for his commitment and dedication to his craft.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Larry played an integral role in his family’s life, actively participating in the family farm and business alongside his brother, Jackie Hebert. This involvement not only strengthened familial bonds but also cemented Larry’s ties to the local community. His passion for agriculture and youth education manifested through his unwavering support of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Larry was a steadfast advocate for this program.
Larry is survived by his beloved children: Tonie (Dennis) Caruso, Claude Hebert, and Lance (Fletcher Jernigan) Hebert. The legacy of love continues through his seven grandchildren – Alexandra, Thomas, Gabrielle, Ray, Tyler, Jackson, and Tiffany – along with five great-grandchildren. He is also mourned by his sisters, Sybil Lovell and Sharon Haydel, his sister-in-law, Sally Hebert, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins who were touched by his kindness and warmth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Raymond Hebert and Elise Ladouceur Hebert; his beloved brother, Jackie; his brother-in-law, Milton Lovell; and his daughter-in-law, Laura Hebert.
Larry’s funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, visitation will begin at 11:00 AM with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 PM, officiated by Father Michael DeBlanc. Inurnment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum with his father, a fitting resting place for a man who dedicated his life to family.
A gathering with refreshments for friends and family will conclude the memorial at Sacred Heart Church hall immediately after service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ADOPT A SENIOR SHOWMAN initiative. This program aims to support the cost of purchasing animals, feed, travel expenses, show registrations, and more, honoring Larry’s legacy of helping youth in agriculture. Larry, “Meatball,” Daddy, or Paw will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He faced challenges with courage, lived a life of genuine love and hard work, and recently took great joy in learning about the arrival of his great-grandson, thanks to his grandson Jackson.
He knew almost everyone in his community and had a story to share about them. He enjoyed old westerns and had an uncanny ability to eat peanut butter and figs or syrup every day of his life accompanying his meals. He loved animals, and his wives…
He was a cool cat, a good friend, a devoted brother and son – a hardworking underdog without much fanfare, and a great man. Larry fought valiantly for his life.
His actions in support of his unwavering love of his family and huge open heart will be missed. His gentle spirit, and acceptance of anyone that needed his help and love, will be missed, his laugh, his smile, his shouting whispers, his joy in the simplest of things, will be missed.
Rest in peace dear Meatball, you will forever be dearly missed.
