October 12, 1949 – February 2, 2023

Karen Hoover Broussard passed away peacefully at the age of 73 during the evening hours of Thursday, February 2, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in Lafayette following a brief illness.

Karen was born in Lutcher on October 12, 1949 and was the eldest of three children born to the union of Ray Hoover Sr. and Quintilla Hoover. She was a 1967 graduate of Franklin High School. She then married the love of her life, Ollen Broussard, on July 27, 1967 at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin and they were blessed with three daughters. Though she worked many jobs throughout her life, her career passion was definitely Land Title Abstracting. Some of her favorite pastimes included traveling by car, motorcycle, or ship, genealogy, arts and crafts, cross stitching, and especially needlepoint. She could be found every Tuesday with her “Stitchy Friends” at the former Stitch and Frame laughing and crafting. She was passionate about helping others, which she did through St. Joseph Hospice. Through her love of needlepoint she organized a Hearts for Hospice project needlepointing countless hearts for families of hospice patients. Karen had a quiet elegance about her and was a great listener with a quick wit. Her family was truly her life which was evident by her status of family caregiver which she carried out to the fullest. Though she will be deeply missed, she taught those she loved well and has gone on to be with her Lord and all those whom she’s cared for. What a great reunion it must’ve been.

Her beautiful memory will forever live in the hearts of her three daughters,  Donna Broussard Hunter and her husband Master Sergeant Kevin Hunter USMC Ret., Robin Broussard Yancoski and her husband Christopher Yancoski, and Rebecca Broussard Rodriguez and her husband Larry Rodriguez; six grandchildren, Ryan Matthew Hunter and his wife Hailey, Catherine Elise Hunter, Quentin Joseph and Matthew John Yancoski, and Alaina Nichole and Evan Michael Rodriguez; one great grandson, Finley Ollen Hunter; her sister, Sherri H. Nesom and her husband Arthur; her brother, Ray J. Hoover Jr. and his wife Beth; her three nephews and their families; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollen Matthew Broussard; her parents, Ray J. Hoover Sr. and Quintilla Robichaux “Mackie” Hoover; her in-laws, Clifford J. Broussard and Elise Rogers Broussard; and her nephew, Chad Hoover.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Church of the Assumption during a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Father Joel Faulk celebrating the Mass. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 AM with the Rosary being prayed at 1:20 PM, led by her dear friend Claudette Landry, followed by the Mass. Following, she will be laid to rest with her husband in the Franklin Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include, Kevin Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Chris Yancoski, Quentin Yancoski, Matthew Yancoski, Larry Rodriguez, and Evan Rodriguez.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of her doctors, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, and St. Joseph Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to Karen.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in her name to St. Joseph Hospice, 923 West Pinhook Road, Lafayette, LA 70503, 337-233-1131.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc., 1007 Main Street, Franklin, LA 70538, (337) 828-5426.
