The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a mother who allegedly abandoned her 4-year-old sick child while she traveled out of state. On Saturday, July 6, 2024, deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Oil Center Drive regarding a juvenile in need of medical attention.  Upon arrival, the deputies discovered Acadian Ambulance paramedics treating a 4-year-old male juvenile who was reportedly left in the care of his 11-year-old cousin.

Shandi Migues, the mother of the 4-year-old, who is also the aunt and guardian of the 11-year-old, allegedly left the children in her home while she traveled to Houston, Texas. Both children were transported to Iberia Medical Center where the 4-year-old was treated. The Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services was contacted and the children were released to family members.

Shandi Migues, age 31, was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the following charges:

LA RS 14:93 Cruelty to a Juvenile
LA RS 14:93.2.1 Child Desertion

Bond has been set at $200,000.00.
