FRANKLIN — A 42-year-old Patterson man died early Wednesday, October 14, after being struck by a pickup truck while riding an electric bicycle on U.S. 90 East near Alice C Road, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers with Troop I began investigating the crash shortly before 1 a.m. Investigators said a 2000 Ford F-350 pulling a gooseneck trailer was traveling east in the outside lane while the bicyclist was riding east along the roadway’s fog line.
For reasons still under investigation, the truck struck the bicyclist. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not included in the release.
State Police said the bicyclist was wearing dark clothing and did not have a helmet. Investigators have not determined whether the electric bicycle had lighting.
The truck’s driver was wearing a seat belt and reported no injuries. Troopers said impairment is not suspected, and the driver’s breath test detected no alcohol.
A routine toxicology sample was collected from the bicyclist and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
