February 8, 1971 – November 30, 2021
Dwayne Joseph Champagne, a lifelong resident of Franklin, passed away at the age of 50 on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Franklin Foundation Hospital following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Dwayne was born in Franklin on February 8, 1971 and was the youngest of six children born to the union of Webster and Anna Mae Champagne. Affectionately known as Football by many, Dwayne could always be found with a smile on his face and was a friend to all he met. Some of his favorite pastimes included writing poetry, drawing, and listening to his favorite rock-n-roll bands. A comic book enthusiast, he also enjoyed writing and drawing original comics. He was truly young at heart and loved joking around.
In 2012 Dwayne’s life was changed in an amazing way. He was blessed with his son, Payton, who was his world. Dwayne embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly and exemplified what a loving father should be. No matter what kind of day he may have had, coming home to Payton made it all worthwhile. His many friends will miss seeing his Facebook posts as to what he and Payton were up to, what “original” dish he was cooking up for them, and especially the many photos he posted of Payton. His devotion to his son was definitely evident to all. He was loved by all and will be missed beyond measure.
His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his son, Payton Champagne; his mother, Anna Mae Trosclair Champagne (who sadly passed away the day after Dwayne died); his siblings, Cheryl C. Sinnott and her husband Leo, Darlene C. Denton and her husband Dale, Danny Champagne and his wife Denette, and Angela Champagne; nine nieces and nephews, Jenny Howe, Greg Haydel Jr., Joanie Luke, Rusty Denton, Travis Denton, Heather Landry, Alaina Borne, Broc Buckner, and Camen Dooley; as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Webster Joseph Champagne, Jr.; his sister, Sandra Champagne; his great niece, Hannah Landry; maternal grandparents, Joseph Trosclair and Laurencia Martin Trosclair; and paternal grandparents, Webster J. Champagne, Sr. and Aria Aucoin Champagne.
Funeral services will be held in conjunction with his mother’s funeral on Monday, December 6, 2021, at 12:00 noon at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. Following the services, he and Ms. Anna Mae will be laid to rest in Perpetual Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Champagne, Darlene Denton, Dale Denton, Greg Haydel Jr., Broc Buckner, and Camen Dooley. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at Ibert’s from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
