MORGAN CITY, La. — Mariners traveling through Berwick Bay should prepare for temporary navigation restrictions while crews replace wire ropes on the BNSF Railroad Drawbridge, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The bridge will remain closed to marine traffic during these scheduled work periods:
October 21–22: 8 a.m. Wednesday through midnight Thursday.
October 27: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
October 28: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
November 4–5: 8 a.m. Wednesday through midnight Thursday.
The drawbridge will not open for vessels during these periods. All waterborne construction equipment will be removed from the main navigation channel at the end of each work period.
A bridge tender will remain on-site throughout the closures. Mariners are encouraged to contact the tender for updates on repairs and navigation conditions.
Vessel operators using the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway through Berwick Bay should plan their trips around the closures to avoid delays.
