ST. MARY PARISH — Sheriff Gary Driskell announced the arrest of Jermaine Lavone Spain, 41, of Franklin, in connection with an armed robbery investigation.

Spain was arrested on January 22, 2026, at approximately 12:34 p.m., on a warrant charging him with armed robbery and pit bull violations (nine counts).

The investigation began on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, when patrol deputies with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported armed robbery at a business in Verdunville. Deputies learned that a suspect entered the business, brandished a firearm, and stole cash before fleeing the scene.

The case was later assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Detectives conducted follow-up interviews with multiple individuals and identified Spain as the suspect. Investigators also discovered that Spain was keeping several pit bull dogs at a residence within the parish.

On January 22, 2026, detectives executed search warrants at residences in Centerville and Verdunville. Spain was located, taken into custody without incident, and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.

Additional charges are pending. At this time, bond has not been set.
