The Houma Police Department has announced the arrest of a second suspect in the investigation of a Monday, April 24th homicide that claimed the life of 16-year-old Sidney Nelson Jr. A third suspect remains at-large.
After further investigation, investigators linked a third suspect to the homicide and a warrant was obtained for second degree murder. The Houma Police Department then reached out to the family of the suspect, attempting to have him turn himself in. With the assistance of Houma Police Department’s community partner, Jerome Boykin of the NAACP, they were able to successfully negotiate the juvenile’s surrender and he was taken into custody without incident.
The Houma Police Department said, “It is always the goal of our agency to resolve situations such as this in a safe and peaceful manner and we would like to thank Mr. Boykin for assisting us with achieving this goal”.
The first suspect, Triston Butler, was taken into custody on Thursday, April 27. 18-year-old Anox Smith remains at-large and Houma Police Department remains hopeful that he will also turn himself in.
