The Louisiana Department of Education has published the LEAP 2025 Statewide Assessment results. St. Mary Parish 3rd to 8th grade students displayed improvement at Basic achievement levels or higher in various subjects: English Language Arts saw an increase in 4 out of the 6 tested grades; Science and Social Studies in 3 out of the 6; and Mathematics, only in one grade. High school scores also showed growth in Algebra I, English I, and Biology, while Geometry and English II remained constant. However, U.S. History experienced a decline. LEAP Mastery+ achievement levels stayed at 29% for grades 3 to 8, but rose by 1% for the entire student body.

St. Mary Parish English Language Learner students surpassed the state average in all areas of the ELPT (English Language Proficiency Test), with 77% scoring Progressing or Proficient versus the state’s 72%. LEAP Connect, designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities, displayed St. Mary Parish students outperforming the state in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Superintendent Buffy Fegenbush views these results as chances for ongoing development. She acknowledges the progress made so far and emphasizes that work remains to be done to improve education further. Fegenbush credits the diligent efforts of school families in supporting St. Mary Parish’s education and is committed to using test data for targeted interventions and support systems that promote greater student success.

While individual student results have been available via the Parent Command Center, students will be sent home with a printed copy of their scores on the first day of school.
