A Morgan City man has been arrested following an investigation into the reported kidnapping of a woman from an Amelia-area business.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Gary Driskell says 27-year-old Guillermo Cerpa Carmona was arrested early Sunday morning on a warrant for simple kidnapping, simple battery and false imprisonment.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy began investigating after a woman contacted authorities at a business in Assumption Parish. The woman reported that an allegedly intoxicated man forced her into a vehicle at a business in Amelia and drove away with her. She was later dropped off at another business, where she contacted the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators used the Flock camera system to locate a vehicle matching the victim’s description, along with the reported time and direction of travel. Authorities said the vehicle’s Texas license plate was registered to Carmona.
A BOLO was issued, and Assumption Parish deputies located the vehicle and contacted Carmona. Following the investigation, a St. Mary Parish deputy obtained an arrest warrant and transported Carmona to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.
No bail had been set as of the release of the arrest report.
Sheriff Driskell and his deputies thanked the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office for its assistance with the investigation.
