St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 37 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Dravian Morris, 18, Berwick, LA, was arrested on March 23, 2023, at 8:05 pm for assault on a school teacher.
On March 23, 2023, deputies were made aware of a threat posted to Snapchat concerning a local teacher. The deputies began investigating the incident and identified Morris as the subject who allegedly posted the threat.
Deputies traveled to Morris’ residence in Berwick and made contact with him. Morris was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail has not been set at this time.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to the safety of our citizens and therefore we consider threats toward school personnel to be serious. Those threats will be handled accordingly.
Christopher Lynn Haynes, 40, Patterson, LA, was arrested on March 24, 2023, at 1:36 am on the following charges:
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of schedule IV drugs
- Driving under suspension
- Turning movements and required signals
Haynes also held two warrants for failure to appear on the following charges:
- Bank fraud
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of methamphetamine.
Bail was set at $15,000.
NARCOTICS SECTION
Audwin Jay Williams Jr., 24, Berwick, LA, was arrested on March 23, 2023, at 5:49 pm on the following charges:
- Improper lane use
- Child not restrained in child restraint system
- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
- Possession of CDS in the presence of a juvenile
On Thursday, March 23, 2023, a detective with the SMPSO Narcotics Section was patrolling Bayou Vista on Highway 182 when he observed a vehicle cross the center line. The detective conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Williams.
Through the investigation, a bag of marijuana was located along with prepackaged baggies of marijuana. A child was a passenger in the vehicle and was not secured in a child restraint system. Williams was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail has not yet been set at this time.
All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
