Chief David Leonard Sr., and the Berwick Police Department are working to provide a secure environment for the upcoming Krewe of Dionysus parade on Saturday. So, Chief Leonard said he is coordinating with nearby police departments to bring in additional officers.
Leonard emphasizes the importance of safety for both residents and visitors and assures that every effort will be made to maintain high safety standards. The public is urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities during the parade. Although parade-goers are allowed to consume alcohol, officers will strictly enforce laws against drunk driving. Attendees planning to drink are advised to arrange for a designated driver.
Officers will be actively controlling traffic to prevent reckless driving. Offenders caught driving dangerously or ignoring roadblocks can expect fines or arrests. Residents living along the parade route are reminded to keep the roads clear and not to park vehicles in a way that obstructs the parade.
The department said that Berwick’s reputation as a safe community is a result of the strong collaboration between its police force and citizens. Leonard extended his gratitude for the ongoing partnership and also thanked the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and police chiefs for their support. The Berwick Police Department also wishes everyone a safe and happy carnival season.
