The St. Mary Parish School Board has voted 8 – 3 to appoint Dr. Rachael Sanders as the new Superintendent of Schools. After emerging from Executive Session, the board voted to proceed with selecting the new superintendent from the three candidates which included Sanders, who has been serving as Interim Superintendent, Franklin Jr. High School Principal Jay Ina and James Russell III Director of Child Welfare and Attendance with Iberia Parish Schools.
Board members voting for Sanders were Ginger Griffin, Marilyn LaSalle, Lawrence Guillory, Chad Paradee, Alaina Black, Andrew Mancuso, Lindsey Anslem and Rhonda Dennis. Voting in favor of Ina were Guienzy Brent, Dr. Tammie Wilson and Debra Jones. Russell did not receive any votes from the board.
The board also voted to begin the process of negotiating a contract with Sanders before she officially becomes superintendent.
