CENTERVILLE, La. — A Mississippi woman has been arrested in connection with a death investigation that began more than five years ago in Centerville.
According to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Stephanie Nicole Albritton, 40, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, was arrested on May 12, 2026, on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
The investigation dates back to April 26, 2021, when a St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputy responded to a residence in Centerville following a report of an unresponsive man. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Stephanie Morgan, who stated that her husband, Mark Morgan, had used drugs and was unresponsive. Acadian Ambulance personnel later confirmed that Mark Morgan had died.
Authorities say the case took a major turn on May 11, 2026, when new evidence surfaced suggesting foul play may have been involved in Morgan’s death. Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office traveled to Brookhaven, Mississippi, to interview Albritton as part of the reopened investigation.
Following the interview and continued investigation, detectives obtained warrants for Albritton’s arrest on the murder and obstruction charges.
Albritton was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on May 13, 2026, where she was booked. Her bond was set at $950,000.
Sheriff Gary Driskell and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division thanked the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookhaven Police Department for assisting in the case.
