IBERIA PARISH, La. — A 46-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning following a burglary investigation in Iberia Parish that involved assistance from a police drone.
According to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 3 a.m. on September 9 to the 1900 block of Diver Drive after receiving reports of suspicious activity on the property.
When deputies arrived, they found an unoccupied 2006 GMC Sierra near a business and began searching the surrounding area.
During the investigation, deputies discovered a wagon containing tools inside one of the buildings. Authorities say the suspect then attempted to flee on foot.
Deputies established a perimeter and continued searching the area. The New Iberia Police Department assisted with its drone unit, which helped deputies locate the suspect.
The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Jeremy Lopez. He was taken into custody and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on a charge of simple burglary and an outstanding warrant.
No bond had been set at the time of the release.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office credited deputies and the New Iberia Police Department for their teamwork, saying the drone played an important role in locating Lopez.
The investigation remains ongoing.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
