Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue has reported that local authorities are currently looking into an accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. On the evening of Saturday, November 11, 2023, just before 6:00 p.m., officers from the Thibodaux Police Department were called to the scene of a collision near the crossroads of Canal Boulevard and School Street.
The affected pedestrian, identified as 62-year-old Michael Mitchell, was rushed to a nearby hospital but later passed away due to his injuries. According to initial inquiries by responding officers, Mitchell, who was using a walker, tried to cross Canal Boulevard when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.
The driver of the car did not appear to be impaired, and a routine breathalyzer test supported this conclusion. The Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office is currently awaiting the results of toxicology tests on the deceased. The investigation into this tragic incident is still ongoing.
