On the morning of Friday, February 24, 2023, officers with the Morgan City Police Department responded to a local business in the area of Sixth Street regarding an armed robbery.

Officers and investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Detectives Division, and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area and quickly began obtaining information. A description of the suspect and a suspected vehicle were disseminated to officers along with surrounding agencies.

With that information, an officer with the Berwick Police Department conducting checks of a local business in the area of US 90 in Berwick located a vehicle fitting the description of the vehicle reportedly involved in the robbery.

Officers from the Morgan City Police Department and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist when Theodore Harris was taken into custody inside of the establishment. A second suspect, David Diienno was also taken into custody and linked to the vehicle in question. Evidence was uncovered during the investigation linking Harris and Diienno to the robbery.

According to reports, at around 11:00 a.m. Harris allegedly entered into the business located on Sixth Street, brandishing a firearm. Harris allegedly demanded money and was able to flee the area with the currency.

Harris allegedly entered into a black vehicle that was driven by another subject later identified as Diienno. Evidence was located in another location within Morgan City that Harris and Diienno reportedly discarded into a dumpster in an attempt to hide their crime.

Investigators executed a search warrant on the vehicle where more evidence was uncovered reportedly linking the duo to the robbery.

Harris was found to be a convicted felon which prohibits him from possessing a firearm. He also held two active warrants for his arrest through the Morgan City Police Department for Theft and 6th Ward Morgan City Court for Failure to Appear.

As investigators were investigating the original robbery, a report was filed by a local business in the area of Brashear Ave. Reports indicate that a black male subject allegedly attempted to enter the business with a firearm in the early morning hours damaging the rear door. Evidence was obtained linking Harris to this incident where he reportedly attempted to forcibly enter the back door of the business while brandishing a firearm. Warrants were prepared for Harris’ arrest for Attempted Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Harris and Diienno were both charged accordingly and incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail awaiting court proceedings.

Chief Chad M. Adams commended the collaborative efforts between all of the agencies involved in the investigation. Adams said, “This team work together, and swift communication enabled us to quickly apprehend these individuals on these very serious crimes. Job well done by all involved.”
