Two Boaters Rescued by Coast Guard Near Atchafalaya Bay

New Orleans, LA. — On Thursday, the Coast Guard conducted a medical evacuation operation for two individuals on a construction vessel located about 20 miles south of Atchafalaya Bay in Louisiana.

Watchstanders from the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a medevac request around 11 a.m., which was initiated by an emergency medical technician who was present on the vessel. The request indicated that one of the passengers was experiencing heart-related complications.

Subsequently, watchstanders from Sector New Orleans coordinated and deployed a helicopter aircrew from the Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans. The team was dispatched on an MH-60 Jayhawk chopper to provide assistance.

Upon arriving at the scene, the aircrew executed a successful hoisting operation to lift both boaters onto the helicopter. They were then transported to the University Medical Center in New Orleans and handed over to waiting EMS staff for further treatment.

The patient with heart-related issues was reported to be in stable condition.
