Morgan City Police Chief Update On Winter Weather

Wintry Weather Update 2/12/2021 @ 8:00 P.M.

Chief James F. Blair and the Command Staff at the Morgan City Police Department have been in contact with the department of Louisiana D.O.T.D. throughout this evening and will continue to do so throughout this winter weather event.

D.O.T.D has staged materials and equipment to assist in keeping the roadways open and close highways if they become hazardous due to frozen precipitation.

As the weather approaches, citizens can utilize 511la.org or Louisiana 511 smartphone application to check for road closures.

We recommend you purchase any needed medications, groceries, and fuel before Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service is predicting the possibility of freezing rain Monday, February 15, 2021. Please consider the following if these conditions occur.

*Avoid unnecessary travel
* Obey all disregard traffic controls
*Do not go around traffic barricades
*Increase your following distance behind other vehicles
*If you encounter a skid, take your foot off the accelerator and steer into the skid until you regain control
