MORGAN CITY, La. — Chef Willie Gaspard of Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel will represent St. Mary Parish and the Cajun Coast at “Taste Louisiana in Chicago,” a culinary and tourism showcase scheduled for November 4 at City Hall by Recess in Chicago’s West Loop.

The event will bring together chefs from across Louisiana to introduce Chicago guests to the state’s cuisine, music and hospitality while encouraging travel to the Pelican State.

Gaspard joined Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel in 2001 and now serves as executive sous chef. The casino’s culinary team has earned more than 100 medals and accolades at Gulf Coast competitions.

Guests at the one-night event will sample dishes prepared by participating chefs, enjoy beverages featuring Louisiana brands and hear performances by Wayne Toups and David St. Romain.

The showcase is a collaborative effort involving the Louisiana Travel Association, Louisiana Office of Tourism, Cajun Coast Tourism and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board.

Louisiana Travel Association President and CEO Chris Landry said the event is designed to give Chicago residents a preview of Louisiana’s food, entertainment and welcoming atmosphere, inspiring them to plan a visit.
Other participating chefs represent destinations throughout the state, including New Orleans, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, Houma, Shreveport-Bossier and North Louisiana.

For the Cajun Coast, Gaspard’s participation provides an opportunity to put St. Mary Parish’s culinary talent before a new audience and highlight the food and culture visitors can experience locally.
