A Schriever man has been arrested following a shooting that left another man seriously injured Thursday afternoon.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced that Albert B. Triggs, 43, of Schriever, has been charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder in connection with the incident.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just before noon Thursday, June 25, to a residence in the 300 block of Louisiana Highway 20 after receiving reports of a man who had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they determined that Triggs allegedly shot the victim following an ongoing verbal altercation between the two men. Witnesses at the scene told investigators they observed Triggs fire the shots during the dispute.

The victim was found near the front porch of the residence suffering from what appeared to be two gunshot wounds to the chest. Deputies immediately provided emergency medical care until Acadian Ambulance personnel arrived. The victim was transported to an out-of-area hospital, where he remains in stable but serious condition.

Triggs was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Detectives with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division assumed the investigation, interviewing the victim, witnesses, and Triggs.

Investigators said Triggs admitted to his involvement in the shooting and provided information that was consistent with statements gathered from the victim and witnesses.
Following the investigation, Triggs was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder. He is being held without bond.
The victim’s identity has not been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

Sheriff Tim Soignet praised the responding deputies and detectives for their swift response and thorough investigation, while also asking the public to keep those affected by the incident in their thoughts as the case continues.
