The Snowball Queen has gotten her wings. Over the weekend, beloved snowball owner Jeannie Gussman Berry passed away. Most people knew her as Granny from Pawpaw’s Sno-Cones. Most people didn’t even know her first name; she was just Granny, and boy, did she love being Granny to every customer and worker she ever had.

Born in the small, quaint town of Morgan City to Albert and Edna Gussman, she was one of four girls and eight children. Growing up, she dreamed of traveling the world, and she got her wish. People would be surprised to find out all the places she lived, from Egypt to Libya to Saudi Arabia, to name a few. But no matter where her travels took her, she never forgot where she came from.

Finally returning to Morgan City in the late 90s to see her grandchildren grow up, she opened her first snowball stand, Pawpaw’s Sno-Cones, and became Granny to everyone who came by.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, Richard Berry; grandchild, Miles Liner; and daughter-in-law, Kristi Liner.

She is survived by her children, Margaret Liner Jarrett and husband Derek; Mike and Lynn Liner; Greg Liner; and Paula Liner Coussou and husband Brent. Her three grandchildren, Kiefer Liner, Kloe’ Liner Mayon, and Anjelica Jarrett; with three great-grandchildren and one on the way. Two brothers, David Gussman and Wade Gussman; and two sisters, Sylvia Rouques and Elaine Gussman.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved her.

Lovingly Written by Anjelica Jarrett (proud granddaughter)

In keeping with Jeannie’s wishes, services will be held privately by the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hargrave Funeral Home of Morgan City, Louisiana.
