UPDATE | 9:54 AM
Authorities have confirmed that Travis is now in custody.
From this point forward, the matter will proceed through the judicial process, where the facts of the case will be reviewed and handled according to the law.
While cases involving animals often generate intense public emotion and strong reactions online, officials stress that justice is determined in the courtroom — not on social media. Every person who is arrested is entitled to due process under the law, regardless of the allegations.
The focus now shifts to accountability, legal review, and the proper administration of justice. At the same time, it is recognized that rehabilitation and the opportunity for a person to move forward after serving justice are part of the system as well.
Further updates will be released as they become available.
Original Story:
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating Travis Ruffin Jr. following an investigation into suspected dog fighting and animal cruelty.
According to deputies, the investigation began after an anonymous complaint reported pit bulls on a property believed to be used for dog fighting. When a deputy responded, authorities said they found 11 dogs on the property, each allegedly in poor condition and chained with thick, heavy chains.
Investigators identified Travis Ruffin Jr. as the owner of the dogs. Based on the evidence gathered, the Sheriff’s Office said an arrest warrant was applied for and granted. Ruffin is now wanted in connection with the case.
Anyone with information that could help locate Ruffin is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 337-828-1960, send a message through Facebook, or submit a tip online at https://www.stmaryso.com/crime-tip.
As with any criminal investigation, the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
