WASHINGTON, DC (December 11, 2025) — Drivers across the country are unwrapping an early holiday gift as the national average for gasoline has fallen 5 cents over the past week, dropping to $2.94 per gallon — the lowest level in four years. The national average has remained under the $3 mark since December 2, when it slipped to $2.99.
According to AAA, the decrease comes just as a record number of holiday travelers prepare to hit the road later this month. This year’s travelers will be paying even less than last December, when the national average hovered at $3.04 to close out the 2024 holiday season.

Louisiana Gas Prices
Louisiana continues to enjoy some of the lowest gas prices in the country, with statewide averages sitting well below the national rate. As of today, the Louisiana state average is approximately $2.54 per gallon, depending on region. Many parishes in South Louisiana are seeing prices in the $2.40–$2.50 range, giving drivers a welcome break as holiday travel ramps up.
Lower crude oil costs, steady refinery output, and moderate seasonal demand are all contributing to the ongoing decline.
AAA says more downward pressure on prices is possible through the end of the year, barring any major supply disruptions.
