Douglas John Perry, a native of Lakeland, Florida and a proud resident of Patterson, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at the age of 58.

Doug was a dedicated husband, father, and, most recently, a proud grandfather—a role that brought him endless joy and laughter. Throughout his life, Doug’s greatest mission was to provide for and protect those he loved. A well-known and respected public servant, Doug devoted his career to serving his community in nearly every way imaginable. He proudly served with the Patterson Police Department and worked with numerous other law enforcement agencies throughout his career. His service didn’t stop there—Doug also spent time with fire departments and EMT services. If it had lights and sirens, Doug probably drove it at some point (and probably told a good story about it, too).

Doug believed deeply in the importance of community. He cared for people from all walks of life and treated everyone he met with kindness, humor, and respect. He truly lived by the motto “to protect and serve,” not just through his badge, but through his actions and heart. A true “jack of all trades” and a people person through and through, Doug had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that could light up any room. His quick wit and infectious laughter left family, friends, and even strangers in stitches. He had the rare gift of making everyone feel seen, valued, and entertained—all at once.

Doug’s life was full of unique experiences, including a memorable turn as a police officer in The Apostle alongside Robert Duvall. The two became close friends, sharing stories both on and off the set—though Doug would likely say his most important starring role was being “Pops”. When he wasn’t serving his community, Doug could be found behind a grill or cast iron pot, cooking up meals that brought people together. He believed that laughter, love, and good food were the keys to a happy life—and he made sure everyone around him had plenty of all three. A die-hard LSU fan, Doug showed his Tiger pride in true Doug fashion—driving his golf cart adorned with LSU signs and a larger-than-life “Mike the Tiger” on top. He was a character in the best possible sense—full of spirit, heart, and humor, every single day.

Doug’s legacy is one of service, laughter, and love. If you knew Doug, you’d know his famous words, “If you don’t want to know the truth, don’t ask”. He leaves behind countless memories shared with family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in law enforcement. Those who knew him could fill pages with stories—funny, touching, and inspiring—about a man who lived fully, gave selflessly, and loved deeply.
He will be forever missed, but his impact will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know him.

Those left to cherish Doug’s wonderful memory are his wife, Mamie Soudelier Perry of Patterson; his daughters, Taylor Reneé Perry and her fiancé, Aaron Gary, Mallory Ann Perry and her companion, Wyatt Andrews and Courtney Perry; his son, Blaise Perry; and his grandson, Rhett Michael Gary. He is also survived by his best friend, Shawn Canty (who was like a brother to him); his sister, Mary Glass; his brother, Robert “Rollo” Williams; his aunt, Shirley Hymel; his uncles, Huey Perera and Claude Sonny Perera and his beloved pet, Demi Grace.

He was preceded in death by his son, D.J. Perry; parents, Dallas and Nancy Perry; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A time of visitation and remembrance will be held for Doug on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 9:00am until 1:00pm at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. Following visitation, a rosary will be prayed for Doug at 1:40pm with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning promptly at 2:00pm, all at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson. Doug will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the services. Father Herb Benefield III will preside over services for Doug.

Those acting as pallbearers will be Shawn Canty, Tim Soudelier, Timothy “T.J.” Soudelier Jr., Sam Stewart, Aaron Gary, Tim Hymel, and Blaise Perry.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Patterson Police Department for their support and dedication to Doug throughout his illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doug’s memory to assist in the alleviation of medical and funeral expenses. Donations can be forwarded to Hargrave Funeral Home at 1031 Victor II Blvd Morgan City, LA 70380.
