CENTERVILLE, La. — St. Mary Parish Sheriff Gary Driskell has announced a series of leadership promotions within the Sheriff’s Office, including the appointment of Charles Parker, Jr. to the rank of Major and his new role as Warden of the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center (SMPLEC).
Major Parker brings more than 16 years of dedicated law enforcement service to his new position. He began his career in corrections and advanced through the ranks as a patrol deputy, sergeant, and patrol lieutenant. His experience also extends beyond the parish, having worked with neighboring law enforcement agencies and in the oilfield and transportation industries. During Hurricane Katrina, Parker assisted in the evacuation of victims from New Orleans to shelters across multiple states.
After returning to the Centerville correctional facility, Parker held several key positions — including Transportation Supervisor, Investigator, and Assistant Warden — each preparing him for his leadership role as Warden. Known for his commitment to professionalism and compassion, Parker has been recognized for helping shift the culture of incarceration toward rehabilitation and respect for human dignity.
He often reminds his staff, “Never think you’re better than any incarcerated person, especially because you’re only one wrong decision away from being in the same situation.”
Sheriff Driskell praised Major Parker’s leadership and long-standing service.
> “Charles Parker has been a very valuable member of our Sheriff’s Office team,” said Driskell. “He’s a proven leader, respected by his peers and employees. I’m extremely proud of him and his accomplishments and look forward to serving alongside him for many years to come.”
The Sheriff also announced additional promotions within the department. Major Nick Rogers, formerly the Warden at the SMPLEC, will now oversee Special Services, which includes Marine operations, Policy and Procedures, Warrants, Courtroom and Courthouse Security, Motorpool, Inventory, Development, and IT. Rogers will focus on streamlining systems and improving departmental efficiency.
Additionally, Samantha Poledér has been promoted to Captain and will continue her work at the SMPLEC alongside Major Parker. Poledér has been an integral part of the facility’s operations and was recognized for her dedication during a recent captains’ meeting where she received her promotion.
Sheriff Driskell extended his congratulations to all three officers, commending their continued service and leadership within the department.
> “These promotions reflect the professionalism and strength of our entire team,” Driskell added. “Their leadership ensures that St. Mary Parish remains safe and well-served.”
