Laura Magee Larive passed away peacefully at her home in Patterson, Louisiana, on July 25, 2025, at the age of 59, after a courageous 6-year battle with ALS.

Laura was born on October 28, 1965 in New Orleans, LA to Wiley and Peggy Magee. Laura married her high school sweetheart, Lane Larive, and they built a beautiful life rooted in love, laughter, and shared passions. Her greatest joy came with the arrival of her grandson, Elliott Michael and granddaughter, Avery Laura who brought her endless light and happiness.

A dedicated educator, Laura taught for 33 years in St. Mary Parish. She began her teaching career at Franklin Junior High before spending 27 years at Patterson High School, where she taught Family and Consumer Science, a subject she loved deeply and taught with pride and passion. She later ended her career at Patterson Junior High, always inspiring her students with care and creativity.

Beyond the classroom, Laura found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved football season, cooking, baking, sewing, and tackling projects at home. She treasured time outdoors, especially camping, fishing, shrimping, and vacationing with her family. Her happiest moments were those spent with family, surrounded by love and laughter.

Laura was a graduate of Patterson High School and faithful member of the Catholic Church. Her quiet strength and unwavering faith carried her through her diagnosis of ALS in 2019. She faced this journey with remarkable courage, grace, and dignity, never losing her warm smile or her love for others.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years, Lane Larive; her children, Luke (Hailey) Larive and Megan Larive; her grandson, Elliott Michael Larive and granddaughter, Avery Laura Larive; her parents, Wiley and Peggy Magee; her sisters, Kelly (Jason) Jones and Caroline Magee; close family friends Rachel Auenson and Monique Estay, her black lab Jessie, and a host of extended family who love her dearly.

Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents Joseph and Beatrice Guzzetta and Annie and JE Magee, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Carolyn and Jesse Larive.

The family would also like to send special thanks and appreciation to Laura’s caretakers Stephanie Verdun and Gayle Singleton for their dedicated and loving care. Special thanks also to HOPE Healthcare and Hospice and Crystal Lott for their continuous support.

A visitation for Laura will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hargrave Funeral Home with dismissal at 1:00 PM. A rosary will follow visitation at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson with a Mass of Christian burial taking place at 2:00 PM. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Team Gleason Foundation in honor of Laura’s courageous battle with ALS.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hargrave Funeral Home of Morgan City, Louisiana.
