Rev. Jimmy Swaggart has passed away at the age of 90. Swaggart was one of the most well-known televangelists in America who was a native of Ferriday, Louisiana. His family announced earlier Tuesday that Swaggart “finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ.” Back on June 15th, Swaggart was rushed to a hospital after going into cardiac arrest at his Baton Rouge home.
According to WAFB, Swaggart founded Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College, located on a vast campus off of Bluebonnet Boulevard in Baton Rouge. Back in 1958, Swaggart became a full-time evangelist and was ordained by the Assemblies of God three years later. The Swaggart family continues to broadcast its church programs internationally through the SonLife Radio and Broadcasting Networks (SBN).
Swaggart wrote nearly 50 Christian books and sold over 15 million records worldwide as a gospel artist. His music earned him a Grammy Nomination.
Swaggart was cousin to the of rock and roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis and country music singer Mickey Gilley.
