Morgan City Responds To Early Saturday Morning Fire

The Morgan City Fire Department said they responded to a structure fire at 5:56am on Saturday morning at 1008 Kimberly Drive. First units arriving initially reported a smoke odor and then updated with smoke from roof vents. Personnel assisted the homeowner from the residence and began searching for the origin of the fire.

Reports indicated the Morgan City Electrical Department had been dispatched for a power outage at the residence prior to the fire department being dispatched. The electric department also noted the residence was the only one in the area without power and notified St Mary 911 of the incident as there was an odor of smoke and likely a fire inside the residence due to a shorted underground electrical wire feed.

The fire department forced entry into the home, removed the occupant, and began the search for the fire condition. The fire was located in the attic, starting from overloaded and shorted-burnt electrical wires. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the attic area.

No injuries had been reported as of Saturday.
