Three area fire departments responded to V.B. Glencoe Charter School on Tuesday afternoon in reference to a fire at a Teche Action Clinic mobile health clinic that is located on the school campus.

St. Mary Parish District 11 Fire Chief Clarence Clark said a generator that was located underneath the mobile health clinic caught fire.  The damage was confined only to the generator and the unit itself was not damaged.

He said the school faculty and staff of V.B. Glencoe Charter School conducted a safe evacuation of the students who were occupying both buildings on the campus.
V.B. Glencoe Charter School issued a statement on Tuesday evening saying,

”At approximately 3:00 PM today, the administration of V. B. Glencoe Charter School was notified of smoke emanating from a mobile unit situated on the school grounds, which belongs to a community agency with which we are partnered. In adherence to our safety protocols, 911 was promptly contacted, initiating an immediate response.

The safety and well-being of our students and faculty remain our utmost priority. Consequently, as a precautionary measure, the middle school/high school buildings were evacuated to ensure the safety of all individuals on campus.

Within moments, the swift response of District 11, Baldwin, and Chitimacha Fire Departments,
alongside the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and Acadian Ambulance, underscored the collaborative efforts and commitment to ensuring the safety of our school community.

Upon assessment, no flames were observed within the mobile unit, and the situation was swiftly
brought under control. Staff members of the community agency arrived promptly on the scene and collaborated effectively with responding agencies.

We are relieved to report that there was no loss of property or injury resulting from this incident. While student dismissal was momentarily delayed, we extend our sincere gratitude to all agencies involved, as well as to our faculty, staff, students, and parents for their understanding, cooperation, and assistance throughout this event.

V. B. Glencoe Charter School remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning
environment for all members of our school community. We will continue to review and reinforce our safety procedures to ensure the ongoing protection of our students, faculty, and staff.”
