New Iberia Police Make Arrest in Two Separate Homicide Investigations

ARREST MADE IN JUNE HOMICIDE 

On June 21, 2023, the New Iberia Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Audrey Street in reference to a deceased individual inside a vehicle. 

Upon arrival, Officers located a 19-year-old male, deceased, inside a vehicle behind an abandoned apartment. 

Detectives responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. 

During the investigation, Detectives identified a suspect and obtained arrest warrants. 

On the morning of January 10, 2024, 19-year-old Kenneth Ray Thomas, III, was arrested. 

Thomas was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the charges of Second-Degree Murder and Illegal use of Weapons. 

Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force and Criminal Intelligence Unit, along with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted with the apprehension. 

ARREST MADE IN NOVEMBER HOMICIDE 

On November 3, 2023, around 12:30 am the New Iberia Police Department responded to a shooting on Spencer Loop near Cletus Street.

Upon arrival, Officers located a 21-year-old male, deceased in the roadway. 

Detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. 

During the investigation, Detectives identified a suspect and obtained arrest warrants. 

On December 21, 2023, members of the Patrol Division located 18-year-old Branson Reed in the 700 block of Saint Jude Avenue. 

Reed was taken into custody without incident. 

Reed was subsequently booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the charge of Principal to Second Degree Murder.
