Elwood Boudreaux 86 of Morgan City peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at The Oaks in Houma, Louisiana.
Elwood worked for J Ray McDermott all his life. He retired as a Supervisor of welding. He was known to be one of the top welders at McDermott, but was humble enough to say, “I wasn’t the best welder, but the best welders never messed with me.”
Elwood was married to his Saint of a wife Betty Scadlock Boudreaux for 60 years. They lived and loved each other in their little house on Willow Street in Morgan City for almost all of those 60 years. The Lord never blessed them with children of their own but, that little house on Willow Street was filled with the love and laughter of many children. Whether it was nieces or nephews, children they babysat, or children from the neighborhood their house was always full of little feet. Of all the children that went through the doors of their home, two were very significant. Elwood and Betty both referred to Tyler and Logan Percle as “their boys”. They were so proud of their two boys. They were also over the moon to find out that baby Abigail was on her way.
Elwood had a great attention to detail and after he retired spent his days taking care of his wife and his home. He was a true “lawn enforcement officer”. He had one of the best looking lawns on his street. He had the ability to fix just about anything and was usually working or cleaning something when people came to visit. His favorite thing to clean was his Mercury Marquis. He absolutely loved that car. Uncle Elwood was an excellent baker. He enjoyed inviting family and friends over for a slice of banana, pecan, pineapple, or coconut cake.
When he wasn’t working around the house, he could be found listening to swamp pop and enjoying Aunt Betty’s cooking.
Elwood is survived by three sister-in-laws Leanna Foret and Louella Aucion of Patterson and Emma(Stanley) Boudreaux of Lydia; his “boys” Tyler(Courtney) Percle and Logan Percle of Morgan City; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear family friends Robbie and Cynthia Owens and Jerome and Susan Duplechin of Schriever.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Scadlock Boudreaux, his parents Joseph and Emilda Boudreaux, three brothers: Vernice Boudreaux, Harold Boudreaux Sr., and Raymond Boudreaux; and one sister Irene Wilbur.
The family would like to thank the staff at both Terrebonne Place and The Oaks in Houma for all the care and attention given to Uncle Elwood while he was at each place. The family would also like to thank Nurse Kim, Ms. Shirley, Australia, Ms. Irma, Alexis, Breanna, and Jason for all of the love and patience shown to our Uncle during both the good and bad times.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2023, at Twin City Funeral Home with Milton Bourgue officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, at Twin City Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. After services, Elwood will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
