Belle Rose – On June 12, 2024, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a three-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 70 near Brule Maurin Road. The crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Tyreke James of Belle Rose.

The preliminary investigation revealed that James was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado east on LA Hwy 70. At the same time, a 2019 International box truck and a 2016 GMC Sierra were traveling west. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet crossed the center line and sideswiped the International on its left side before striking the GMC head-on.

James was not restrained at the time of the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, where he later died. The driver of the GMC was also not restrained and was transported to an out-of-area hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the International was properly restrained and uninjured.

Standard toxicology samples were collected from James and the driver of the GMC for analysis. The driver of the International voluntarily submitted to a breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected. This crash remains under investigation.

Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself while driving or riding in a vehicle. It can reduce the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash, and it takes only seconds to do so. Always remember to buckle up before starting your journey, no matter how short the trip may be.

Troop C has investigated 12 fatal crashes resulting in 14 fatalities in 2024.
