Local officials recently signed a proclamation to observe Older Americans Month in St. Mary Parish. Older Americans Month was first created by President John F. Kennedy in May of 1963, a national month of recognition to be held each May to celebrate the vitality and achievements of older adults.

Locally, the St. Mary Council on Aging will hold special events throughout the month at its three Senior Center across the parish.  The Senior Centers are located at 302 Iberia Street in Franklin, 909 First Street in Patterson and 301 Third Street in Patterson.

St. Mary Council on Aging Executive Director encourages everyone to reach out to senior citizens, even if it’s just a phone call.
