On September 26, 2024, the Berwick Police Department received information regarding a possible threat being posted on social media to a school. An investigation was conducted which led investigators to a residence in Berwick where a juvenile male suspect was developed. Officers made contact with the juvenile and parent. Following the investigation, the juvenile was placed under arrest for terrorizing and later released to the custody of a parent.

Through the course of the investigation, there was no immediate threat to the public or our school system. School board officials were made aware throughout the investigation.
Chief David Leonard would like to the thank the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s office and the Louisiana State Police for their assistance in resolving this matter in such a timely manner. Chief Leonard would also like to make the public aware to not be alarmed if any extra presence of officers is observed at the local schools as we strive to ensure safety to our community.

We would especially like to thank our federal law enforcement partners for quickly getting information to our State and local agencies to resolve this matter.
