A Tuesday afternoon vehicle pursuit in Assumption Parish reached speeds up to 115 mph before finally coming to a halt near Amelia, with the vehicle’s two occupants reportedly fleeing into the swamp.

An Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle, which was occupied by a white male and a black male, on Highway 398 in the Labadieville area for a traffic violation. That’s when the driver reportedly failed to stop and continued traveling westbound on Highway 398 towards Morgan City.  At the time the pursuit passed the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Bayou L’Ourse Substation, the pursuit had reached 115 mph.

Both suspects reportedly fled into the swamp after their vehicle was spike-stripped near Tuboscope in Amelia. One suspect was taken into custody at 4:03 pm while the deputies continue to track the second suspect with K-9 officers.

Both suspects will be booked on drug and weapons charges. We will update the story as more information becomes available.
