Lake Cinema Closing Its Doors After 52 Years in Business

The management of Lake Cinema in Morgan City has announced that the theater is closing as of February 1, 2024.  The theater opened its doors on July 7, 1971 and has served several generations of move-goers over the years. Lake Cinema was owned for many years by local businessman and former Berwick councilman, Aubrey Lasseigne. After Lasseigne’s death  in 1996, his daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and Nels Offerdahl, became the new owners and have owned it since that time.

Darlene Toups, who managed Lake Cinema for over 26 years, told KQKI News Sunday morning that, “It has been a pleasure serving our community for over 52 years. I am going to miss all of the old and new customers I met over the years. We thank everyone who has supported us.”  Toups added that Lake Cinema was her first job at 15 years old and she has been employed by the theater for approximately 34 years.
