Gloria Jean Leger Gunther passed away at the age of 77 in the morning hours of Saturday, September 24, 2022 at her home in Patterson.

A lifelong resident of Patterson, Gloria was born in Morgan City on August 28, 1945 and was the eldest of four children born to the union of Lester and Joyce Leger. She married the love of her life, Joe Gunther, in 1963. They were blessed with two children, Michael and Shelley. In her earlier years, Gloria worked for Patterson State Bank, beginning as a teller and working her way up to Branch Manager of the Place Norman Branch. She went on to work as a secretary for Cameron Iron Works in Patterson followed by working at Cal Dive until her retirement. She deeply enjoyed all of her various employments. Some of her favorite pastimes included crocheting, painting, going to estate sales, and shopping with her daughter. She was an avid Saints and LSU fan and also enjoyed watching tennis. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Up until the time of her passing, she lovingly cared for her ailing husband, Joe. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her husband of nearly 59 years, Joseph J. Gunther; her daughter, Shelley Gunther; two grandchildren, Adriane Kyle Watson and Michael Lee Dobbs; two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Zane; her two siblings, Lester A. Leger and his wife Kelly and Leslie L. Rice and her husband Donald III; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joseph Gunther; her parents, Lester P. Leger and Joyce LaGrange Leger; and her brother, Malcolm F. Leger; as well as by many other family members who were very dear to her.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson during an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Following she will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Michael Russo will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael Dobbs, Christopher Leger, Logan Leger, Landon Leger, Robin Hanks, and Brandon Leger.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson from 9:00 AM until time of dismissal at 10:30 AM, with the Holy Rosary being prayed at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1011 First St., Patterson, LA 70392, for Masses to be said for the repose of her soul.
