Gene Edward Nezat, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 19, 2023, in Morgan City, Louisiana. Born on November 20, 1943, in Port Barre, Louisiana, Gene was a dedicated individual who made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.

Outside of work, Gene had a few passions that brought joy to his life. He was an avid supporter of LSU, embracing his love for the Louisiana Tigers and actively following their sports teams. In his leisure time, Gene found solace in the quiet serenity of fishing.

Gene was a man of unwavering faith and was an active member of Sacred Heart Church. He found solace and strength in his religious beliefs, and his devotion to his faith was evident in every aspect of his life.

Gene’s vibrant spirit and genuine charm made him a cherished presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He had a knack for forming connections and treating everyone he encountered with kindness and respect. Gene never met a stranger – his warmth and genuine interest in others made him a natural people person.

In addition to his devotion to family, Gene found solace and companionship in his loyal and beloved dog, Eli. Their bond was one of unmatched loyalty and undying friendship.

Gene was a family man at heart, cherishing the moments spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Edie Nezat, and their two daughters, Lisa Patterson and husband Terry and Valerie Thompson and husband Troy. Gene also leaves behind cherished memories with his grandchildren, Amanda Patterson Spurrell, Aaron Patterson and wife Danielle, Shelby Carlos and husband Roman, and Kelsey Donald and husband Michael. Gene will also be missed by his great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Carson, Brayden, Cash, Theo, Cameron, and Quinn.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. Mass will commence at 2:00pm.
