First Solar, the leading solar energy manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere, has chosen Acadiana Regional Airport as the location for its new solar panel manufacturing facility. With an investment of up to $1.1 billion, the facility will produce high-performance photovoltaic (PV) solar modules and is expected to be operational by the first half of 2026.

The project will generate over 700 direct jobs with a total yearly payroll of at least $40 million, marking the largest single capital investment in the area’s history.

Governor John Bel Edwards praised the decision, stating, “First Solar’s selection of Iberia Parish for its newest solar panel production facility leaves no doubt that Louisiana is leading the global energy transition and creating good-paying jobs as a result.” He added that this substantial investment is proof of Louisiana’s successful “all-of-the-above” approach to energy and thanked First Solar for their commitment to a more sustainable future.

The facility will be constructed on an LED Certified Site, ensuring it is development-ready and will manufacture First Solar’s Series 7 modules using 100% U.S.-made components.
