On March 8, 2025, at approximately 9:44 PM, officers responded to a vehicle collision at the intersection of South Van Avenue and Acadian Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed that a passenger in one of the involved vehicles was trapped. The Houma Fire Department was immediately contacted to assist in the rescue.
Initial investigation revealed that a 2004 Lincoln Town Car traveling westbound failed to stop at the traffic signal. As a result, it was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado heading northbound through the intersection.
Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene and transported the passenger, identified as Sterling Sims, to Terrebonne General Medical Center (T.G.M.C.). Tragically, Mr. Sims later succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, no alcohol or drugs are suspected to have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
