A fatal house fire in the 1000 block of Sixth Street in Morgan City is under investigation by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
According to the Morgan City Fire Department, crews were dispatched shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday, October 31. The first engine arrived within four minutes and found extensive fire throughout the home.
Before firefighters arrived, a passerby spotted an unconscious person at the doorstep, moved the person to safety and began rendering aid. Morgan City police officers provided additional assistance.
Firefighters began an aggressive attack on the flames while simultaneously searching the residence for anyone else inside. Berwick Fire Department was called for mutual aid because of the extensive fire, uncertainty about additional occupants and the proximity of neighboring structures.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire’s cause and origin, as is standard in fatal fires. Further information will be released by that agency.
