Donald Joseph Loupe, 79, a resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 27, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born October 8, 1943, in Morgan City, the son of Lionel John Loupe and Louise Berthalot Loupe.

Donald was a bus driver for St. Mary Parish School Board for over 38 years. He also coached many youth sports teams for over 10 years. Donald was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Cross and Central Catholic School Boards, and the Associated Groceries Association. Donald previously served as the president of the St. Mary Parish Tourists Commission.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen Melancon Loupe; five children, Lisa Loupe Chiasson (Mitchell), Gina Loupe Dupuis (Mike), Maria Loupe Barbier (Dwayne), Donald James Loupe (Catherine Castalano), Christina Loupe Prather (Eric); 15 grandchildren, Evan Chaisson (Renee), Jordan Chaisson, Ann Mary Dupuis, Adam Dupuis, Adrianna Dupuis, Bryson Barbier, Matthew Barbier (Molly), Luke Barbier, Rebecca Loupe, Natalie Loupe (JordanLuna-Howell), Sarah Loupe, Noah Loupe, and Egan Prather; four great-grandchildren, Elaina, Ridge, and Rylee Chaisson, and Peter Barbier.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Louise Loupe; brother, James “Jimmy” Loupe (Verlie Angelloz Loupe)

The family would like to thank the staff of Journey Hospice, as well as the Thibodaux Regional Home Health. They would also like to thank Dr. Francis Robichaux and the staff of The Family Doctor’s Clinic for the great care given to Donald.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Central Catholic School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jay Baker and Father Brett Lapeyrouse celebrating Mass. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. After Mass, Donald will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
