Bernadette Charpentier Leonard Paul

Bernadette Charpentier Leonard Paul, a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at the age of 86 on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Bernadette was born in Jeanerette on May 10, 1935, one of eleven children born to the union of Adam and Stella Charpentier. She lived a simple life, enjoying working in her yard and flower beds, and spending time with those she loved. She always put the needs of others before her own. She will be deeply missed by all.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her daughter, Dolores Leonard Derouen; her two sons, Michael Leonard and Dallas Leonard Jr.; ten grandchildren, Tina Vallet, Bonnie Duncan, Scott Derouen, Jeremy Derouen, Tony Derouen, Mark Derouen, Isaiah Leonard, Robert Breaux Jr., Jordy Breaux, and Samuel Breaux; 16 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; her sister, Hazel Delcambre; two sons-in-law, Steve Louviere and Robert Breaux Sr. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dallas Leonard Sr.; three children, Patricia L. Louviere, David Leonard, and Deborah L. Breaux; one grandson, Shayd Warren Arboneaux; six brothers, Irving Charpentier, Berwick Charpentier, Adam Charpentier Jr., Melvin Charpentier Sr., Leon Charpentier, and Jimmy Charpentier; three sisters, Leona Mire, Dorothy Picard, and Josephine Granger; one son-in-law, L.J. Derouen; and her second husband, Eolours James Paul.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. The family requests visiting hours be observed from 10:00 am until time of service. Her grandson, Jordy Breaux will conduct the services.  She will be laid to rest in Franklin Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Leonard, Dallas Leonard Jr., Robert Breaux Jr., Jordy Breaux, Samuel Breaux, Mark Derouen, and Charles “Bubba” Duncan III.
