NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon invited religious leaders of all denominations from Assumption Parish for a social gathering at the Community Center on Monday evening.

The meeting had been held annually until the event was paused due to Covid.

Sheriff Falcon’s Office made a presentation dealing with civilian defense of an active shooter. The course highlighted a number of recent church and school shootings throughout the country.

This same program was presented previously to personnel of the Assumption Parish School Board and Assumption Parish Libraries.

Also in attendance at Monday’s event were members of the Assumption Parish School Board and Police Jury.

“When I entered law enforcement many years ago, I never once dreamed that these types of events would be part of the world we live in today. Unfortunately, it is occurring much too frequently, and I concluded that we need to be prepared in the event it ever happens here. Our schools and churches should be the safest places for our people,” Falcon said.
