The Chitimacha Tribal Police Department has arrested two Charenton residents on active warrants involving multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to Chitimacha Police Chief B.C. Trahan, Jenna L. Toups, 38, of Houma Drive, was arrested on July 22, 2026. She is charged with two counts of cruelty to juveniles, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, distribution or possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, and false imprisonment. She was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.
Also arrested on July 22 was Byron J. Toups, 42, of Houma Drive in Charenton. He is charged with indecent exposure, indecent behavior with a juvenile, simple assault, disorderly conduct, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse, and domestic abuse. He was also transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the investigations.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the accused are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
