A video showing two Patterson police officers taking a suspect to the ground during a Friday night traffic stop has quickly gone viral on social media.

The video shows a struggle between the officers and the suspect before he was forcefully taken to the ground and placed into custody.

In an exclusive interview with KQKI News, Patterson Police Chief Garrett Grogan said he has reviewed the officers’ body camera footage. According to Grogan, the suspect had been refusing to cooperate with officers several minutes before the viral video was recorded.

48-year-old Jevon R. Smith was booked on the charges of Stop Sign Violation, Resisting an Officer and Disturbing the Peace by language and released on a summons.

KQKI News has submitted a request to the Patterson Police Department for the complete body camera footage. If the footage is released, KQKI News will make it available to the public.
