PATTERSON — The Patterson Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers who appear to be using the department’s main phone number.
According to Chief Garrett Grogan, citizens have reported receiving fraudulent calls from someone falsely claiming to be associated with Border Patrol or U.S. Customs and instructing them to call another number.
Police say the calls are a scam and stress that the Patterson Police Department will never contact citizens in this manner or ask them to return calls to outside agencies through unofficial numbers.
Authorities urge residents who receive one of these calls to:
Do not provide personal or financial information
Do not return the call
Hang up immediately
Anyone who has received one of these suspicious calls is encouraged to report it to the Patterson Police Department.
Chief Grogan says public safety and scam awareness remain a top priority.
