First responders are having a busy afternoon with several major incidents being reported in connection with the Jeanerette Mardi Gras parade.  The reported incidents include gunshots that were fired along the parade route and several medical emergencies, including a child that was struck by a float and a female that was hit by a vehicle.

While the investigation is in its early stages, we have been told that no one was injured in the shooting and a suspect is in custody. Acadian Air Med has reportedly responded to Jeanerette to transport the child who was struck by a float and we don’t yet have any information regarding the female who was hit by a vehicle. Several other medical emergencies were also reported along the parade route.

Multiple area law enforcement agencies were involved in providing security for the parade, but were quickly overwhelmed with several incidents occurring within a short period of time.

We will update the story once more information becomes available.
