Morgan City Councilman Eriq Blanchard Announces Resignation, Accepts Position with State

Morgan City Councilman Eriq Blanchard, who was elected to service District 5 last fall, has announced he is resigning effective June 21.

While not specifying the position, Blanchard said that he has accepted a job with the State of Louisiana, therefore, he is having to resign his council seat, which he said was unexpected.

Blanchard said he is proud of his accomplishments as a council member the last 6 months, such as new sidewalks, upgrades to a children’s park and other progress.

Morgan City Mayor Lee Dragna told KQKI News Monday morning that he is waiting on direction from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office on whether or not the council should appoint an interim council member and when a special election should be held to fill Blanchard’s council seat.
